Clarendon Scholarships at University of Oxford 2013/2014

The Clarendon Fund is the University of
Oxford's flagship scholarship scheme. The
awards are sponsored by Oxford
University Press and are only available at
the University of Oxford for all full-time
and part-time graduate degrees.

All degree-bearing graduate courses in all
subjects are eligible. This encompasses
all full-time and part-time Master's
courses (MSt, MSc, BCL/MJur, MBA, MFE,
MPhil, BPhil, MSc by Research, MTh, MPP)
and all DPhil programmes. A list of all the
graduate courses offered by the
University of Oxford can be found on the
Graduate Course Guide.
Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma
courses are not eligible for this
scholarship.

An excellent academic record is
essential: A high first class honours
degree or its equivalent (a GPA score of
at least 3.7 if the mark is out of 4, noting
that most successful candidates achieve a
score higher than 3.7) or an outstanding
academic record at Master's level is
necessary (noting that an outstanding
Master's degree can compensate for a
moderate first degree performance).
Other indicators of high academic
achievement may include individual marks
on student transcripts; evidence of
previous university prizes or awards;
information on your overall position
within your cohort; and publications (if
applicable).
Aptitude for the proposed course of
study : This may be assessed by reviewing
academic references, the research
proposal, demonstrated evidence of
aptitude for research, and the likelihood
the scholar will contribute significantly to

Netherlands Fellowship Programmes for Master’s Degree, PhD Research and Short Courses

Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the budget for development cooperation is offering Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) for developing country applicants. The fellowship is available for master’s, PhD and short courses. Students must be a national of, and working and living in one of the countries in the NFP country list valid at the time of application. If for whatever reason a candidate stays in another country other than his or her home country for more than 90 days before the start of the course and/ or programme, he or she is not considered to be living and working in his or her home country. Nuffic receives thousands of fellowship applications each year. Only a small percentage of these applications are eventually granted a fellowship. Application should be submitted till 1St October 2013.

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and OCLC are offering Jay Jordan IFLA/OCLC Early Career Development Fellowship for Developing Countries Applicants. This fellowship is available for early career development and continuing education for library and information science professionals. Applicants must have a qualifying degree in library or information science. Normally a PhD is not considered a qualifying degree, because the Fellowship program is targeted for early career librarians. The application deadline is February 14, 2014.
Study Subject(s): Fellowship is provided in library and information science. Topics and issues include information technologies and their impact on libraries, library operations and management, and global cooperative librarianship.

What does it cover? The award provides the following for each Fellow:

-Transportation related to library visits (arranged by OCLC).

2013/2014 MUSTE SCHOLARSHIP (Undergraduate and Postgraduate)

The Mankind United To Support Total Education (MUSTE) is a Scholarship arm of Youth Empowerment and ICT Foundation; it was registered with the corporate affairs commission in Abuja Nigeria on the 17th of November 2003. It is founded and funded by Mr. Jim Ovia in the year 1998, to provide financial aid to outstanding Nigeria youths.
 The awardees are given funding for undergraduate study for the duration of the undergraduate program. The award includes tuition and maintaince allowance. The scheme offers an average of 100 opportunities every year. The Financial records show that as at October 2010, Mr. Ovia has invested N98,220,000 in the program on one thousand, four hundred and thirty-nine beneficiaries.


The Mankind United to Support Total Education (MUSTE) program is for undergraduate and higher degree studies only.  
All scholarships are awarded based on merit, using the information provided in the form, supporting documents and a screening test.

• Have their Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination result or the equivalent  
• Have a current admission letter into a recognized higher level institution

2012/2013 SPDC Joint Venture University Scholarship Award Scheme


The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (Operator of the NNPC/SHELL /TEPN/AGIP Joint Venture) Scholarship Scheme offers first year students in all Nigerian universities the opportunity to study with an annual grant from the SPDC JV for the full duration of their course. 2014/2015 Chevening Scholarship


The Chevening Scholarships will support over 600 established or emerging leaders from 118 countries worldwide. They are typically for a one-year Master’s degree in any subject and at any of the UK’s leading universities.
 The programme is a United Kingdom government’s scholarship programme, funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. Scholars are hand-picked by British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world, sometimes in partnership with sponsoring organization.

Applicants must:
  • be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country, with the intent to return there at the end of the period of study;
  • hold a degree that is equivalent to at least an upper second-class honors degree in the UK;
  • achieve the minimum Chevening English language requirement;
  • have completed at least two years’ work or equivalent experience before applying for a Chevening Scholarship;
  • be able to obtain the correct visa, and receive an unconditional offer from a UK university.
A Chevening Scholarship in Nigeria includes:

  • The Head, Youth Segment is responsible for the acquisition and retention strategy of customers between 18 – 24 years old within Airtel’s target African market across both the Prepaid and Hybrid business.  This role is responsible for approximately 50% of the OPCO’s revenue
  • The role must co-ordinate closely with Head, Youth Segment Group to ensure a consistent strategic approach to this segment including, Product, Branding, Marketing Communications, Sales, Retail, Acquisition and Retention strategy. 
  • This role is responsible for maintaining and growing X% of the customer base and y% of the revenue in the Nigerian market.
Key Responsibilities
Achieve   the desired revenue from the base by designing and developing customized  retention and acquisition programs
 
  • Prepaid: By planning and achieving   an optimal balance between the recharge revenue and the usage by the customer
  • Hybrid: By developing and   implementing programs to enhance the revenue by facilitating customer upgrades   with respect to the rental revenue, airtime usage and chargeable tariffs.
  • To grow revenue within the Youth base   at x times greater than Airtel or Market growth – whatever is greater
  • Implement bundling programs across the   Youth base and ensure X% of Youth are bundled by the end of FY13/14
  • Youth partnerships identification&   develop programs around the same
To   develop the Youth service strategy within the OPCO
  • By creating new partnerships with   relevant institutions such as retail, handset providers, fast-food   restaurants, Universities, second markets and so on.

Desired Skills & Experience

The focus of this role is to implement and execute projects and programs in a timely manner and engage all stakeholders in a proactive manner; flawlessly manage customer quality issues to closure, manage customer satisfaction with product quality and technical support.

In this position, you will be working with the team in the delivery of customer support in the area of focus - such as our consumers/1st time buyers program as well engineering support for customers in Nigeria and West Africa (Ghana) region. The customer support consists of both reactive issue resolution and pro-active improvement projects. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Supporting customers with Quality and/or Reliability issues or concerns, including information requests.
- Working on several improvement projects, including customer improvement projects as well as internal improvement projects, such as tools development (programming skills would be an advantage).
- Support for our 1country project and liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth program implementation and delivery.
- Assisting with 'Keeping The Business Running' and generally assisting the team in program delivery and implementation.

Qualifications

This is a 12 month fixed-term placement suitable for students currently studying a degree course in relevant disciplines, and is targeted at 2nd or 3rd year students enrolled in a 4 years bachelor's degree which includes a year in industry. Having one or more of the skills below will be a strong advantage:

Marketing and Sales: Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.

Technical Skills:
- Understanding of basic PC architecture
- Ability to build and debug typical PC hardware, install and debug typical PC operating systems including both Microsoft Windows and various distributions of Linux
- Ability to do circuit designs using large scale integration components, familiarity with configuration of complex devices at register level
- Ability to program in assembly language for X86 processors
- Ability to program in either C or C++, detailed knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP
- Ability to debug electronic circuits using typical debug tools such as oscilloscope, logic analyzer etc
- Project management and implementation

Soft Skills:
- Ability to quickly learn about new products and technologies
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English
- Capable of working unsupervised by prioritizing work and focusing on meeting agreed objectives in required timeframe
- Ability to integrate quickly with existing team so that maximum contribution to team goals can be quickly achieved
